A family firm, not a call centre

In our own words

We’re Solar Squirrel, a team of professional, local solar panel installers helping homes across West Sussex and nearby make the move to clean energy. We keep things simple, honest, and neat.

That is the description on our own front page, and it is about as much of a mission statement as we have ever felt the need for.

Where we are

We’re based in Washington, just outside Worthing, and we mostly serve West Sussex, Hampshire and parts of Surrey and the South Coast. Washington is a village at the foot of the South Downs, beneath Chanctonbury Ring, on the A24 between Worthing and Horsham. It is a good place to run this sort of business from: the coast is twenty minutes one way, the Weald twenty the other, and almost everywhere we work is inside an hour.

Solar, and the electrical work underneath it

Solar Squirrel grew out of an electrical firm, and the electrical side never went anywhere. That is a more useful fact than it sounds. A solar installer who is also an electrical contractor is a different animal from one who subcontracts the electrics — when the consumer unit turns out to be older than expected, or the earthing arrangement needs upgrading before an EV charger can go in, it is the same team on the same day.

It is why general electrical work is still on the list alongside the panels.

What we won't do

We do not quote in the hallway on the way out. We do not bring a price that expires at midnight. We do not ask you to decide on the doorstep. And if solar genuinely will not pay for itself on your usage, we will say so and save us both an afternoon.

That last one costs us work occasionally. It has never once cost us a recommendation.
